  • Ribchev defeated in Poland

    June 23 , 2010

DSC_4209The supermiddleweight Bulgarian champion Alexey Ribchev was defeated for the first time in his career. He lost on PTS against the local boxer Dariusz Sek on a boxing show in Kielce,Poland . The boxer from Rousse now has a record of 5 wins and 1 loss . His comment after the fight was :

“ I hoped for a win but it didn`t happen. This fight was a valuable experience for me. Supermiddleweight is too big for me , next time I`ll try in middleweight or even in lightmiddleweight . I think I have much better chances to success in the lower divisions. The fight in Poland went good , I didn`t receive any cuts or hard punches.  The whole fight Dariusz Sek was holding me and I couldn`t work in close distance where is my best.  I know my weaker points now  and I`ll train hard on it  to make it  better.

  • The Cobra scored a knockout victory against Batchelder

    March 14 , 2010

pulevSensational heavyweight enforcer Kubrat Pulev (7-0, 5 KOs) continued his impressive run with a frightful display of power in a second-round stoppage of experienced, yet small American heavyweight Danny Batchelder (25-8-1, 12 KOs). Batchelder was active in the first round scoring with numerous combinations to the body, while Pulev took some time to study his foe. The Bulgarian finally decided it was time to go in the second stanza and, when he made his choice, the end was painful for the American. Pulev threw a lethal left half-hook/half-uppercut that landed on Batchelder’s chin through American’s block. Time was 0:45, when referee Daniel Van de Wiele halted the action, maybe a bit prematurely. After that fight 28 years old Kubrat Pulev moved up to 34th place in the world boxrec ranking.

In the main event Marko Hucк (Ger) scored a knockout win against the challenger Adam Richards only for 3 rounds of boxing and defended again his WBO world cruiserweight title. This was the 28 success for Huck while he has only one defeat.

Alexander Povetkin (Rus) is the future number one in heavyweight division according to many specialists. The Mexican Javier Mora survived only five rounds against the explosive Russian . Mora was down three times before referee stopped the fight. This was 19th consecutive win for Povetkin and his 14th KO.

The weight-in for the Bulgarian boxer Kubrat Pulev and his next opponent the American Danny Batchelder ended today.  Pulev was 110,3kg, while Batchelder was 10kg lighter – 100,5kg. Tomorrow 13.03 in Max Schmeling Arena, Berlin they are scheduled to fight 8 rounds. This will be the 7th fight for the Cobra who is still unbeaten in 6 consecutive bouts. Danny Batchelder looks like a serious opponent with 25 wins and 7 losses, but having in mind the six losses in his last seven fights, it’s clear that there is no place for a surprise. In his career he has fought against several world champions but unsuccessfully. He is 185cm tall, with orthodox stance, born in 1973. The main event of the program will be the WBO world cruiserweight boxing championship between Marco Huck (Ger) and Adam Richards (USA) and it will be life on the Germany ARD. Other interesting fights at the show are Alexander Povetkin (Rus) against Javier Mora (Mex) and Yoan Hernandez (Cub) against Cesar Crenz (Arg).

  • 18-20 February 2010 Strandzha Cup Champions

    February 22 , 2010

Strandja CupThis Saturday was the end of the 61st international men boxing tournament Strandzha Cup. Seven Bulgarians reached the finals and twice the hymn of Bulgaria was heard honouring the champions Alexander Alexandrov (51 kg) and Detelin Dalakliv (54 kg). Maryan Momchev (75kg) and Tervel Pulev (91 kg) didn’t come up for their final fights because of injuries. The hot Bulgarian prospects Lyuben Todorov (57 kg), Angel Dimov (60 kg) and Milan Zlatev (64kg) lost their finals with a minimum point difference against far more experienced opponents. About 2000 people applauded the expected bearer of this year’s Strandzha Cup – Detelin Dalakliev. Second best at the tournament became the world champion in the light heavyweight division, the Russian Artur Beterbiev. The best technical boxer became the Armenian Hovhanes Danlyan (48 kg) and the youngest boxer was the 17-year old Stefan Slavchev. It came as u surprise that the double Olympic champion, World and European champion – the Russian Alexey Tishchenko (60 kg), lost on points (2:4) the semifinal against the Uzbek Hurshid Todzhibaev. Unexpectedly the double World champion Abos Atoev also lost on points his semifinal against Adem Kilikchi (Turkey). Despite these two surprises, there was weak competition this year and the absence of traditionally strong participants like the teams of Kazakhstan and Ukraine made it possible for younger Bulgarian boxers to reach the finals. Here are the champions in each division:

    48kg – Hovhanes Danilyan (Armenia)

    51kg – Aleksander Aleksandrov (Bulgaria)

    54kg – Detelin Dalakliev (Bulgaria)

    57kg – Karem Gyurchen (Turkey)

    60kg – Hurshid Todjibaev (Uzbekistan)

    64kg – Roniel Sotolongo (Cuba)

    69kg – Uktamon Rahmonov (Uzbekistan)

    75kg – Adem Kilikchi (Turkey)

    81kg – Artur Beterbiev (Russia)

    +91kg – Sergey Kuzmin (Russia)

Best boxer award – Detelin Dalakliev

Second best boxer – Artur Beterbiev

The most skilled fighter -Hovhanes Denilyan

    Youngest boxer – Stefan Slachev

The next battle of The Cobra will also be 8 rounds on 13 March. He will fight in the legendary Berlin hall ‘Max Schmeling Arena’’, named after the late World champion in the heavyweight division. The former European amateur champion Pulev will fight against the 33-year old Danny Batchelder (25 wins, 12 knockouts, 7 losses and 1 draw). The American lost his last four bouts but it was against very strong opponents, like the former World Champions James Tony and Lamon Brewster and the tough Alexander Dimitrenko and Lans Whitaker.

  • Kubrat Pulev vs Issosa Mondo in a 8 round battle

    February 9 , 2010

Kubrat Pulev will step on the professional ring fot the sixth time in his career. This will happen on 20 February in Belgium, where Pulev will fight against Issosa Mondo (Congo) who has 3 wins and 2 losses in his record. After proving himself against experienced boxers like Matt Skelton and Gbenga Oloukun, this coming battle for Pulev seems easily predictable. The boxer from Congo is not likely to offer resistance for more than a few rounds against the European champion from Liverpool.   Issosa has had three wins against low-ranked boxers since 2008 and his two losses date from 2000 and from 2004 when he lost on points. Here is a short video from his last fight on 29 January this year in France against Massinisa Hamaili  where the boxer from Congo won after his opponent got injured in the fourth round:

  • Kubrat Pulev vs Oleg Platov

    December 14 , 2009

Platov pre-fightIt has been only a few months since Kubrat Pulev started his professional career and now he already expects his first serious trial. On 30 January he will play his fifth bout, where his opponent will be the famous and experienced Ukrainian Oleg Platov.  The 26-year old Platov has a record of 30 professional   fights, from which 28 wins (22 knockouts), one stopped fight due to an accidental headbutt and only one loss on points against the journeyman Ludovik Mace. Despite his great experience, Platov hasn’t met a high-profile boxer except the English Danny Williams. The fight between the two was stopped due to a head clash. Platov is 30 in the unofficial world boxrec ranking, while Pulev is 50. Pulev is both taller and 10 kg heavier than the Ukrainian.  The explosive punches of Platov, however, will be a permanent danger during the eight rounds of boxing  and in order to win, Pulev will have to fight perfectly from a distance.
