Desereved and expected: Detelin Dalakliev – Number 1 sportsman in Bulgaria for 2009
December 22 , 2009
Detelin Dalakliev was pronounced Number 1 sportsman of Bulgaria for 2009. He received 1358 points and triumphantly won the 52 edition of the prestigious survey-based competition. He is the only world champion of Bulgaria for this year and the only Bulgarian winner of gold medal in boxing for 14 years. The second and third best are the legend of Bulgarian gymnastics Yordan Iovchev and the star in female wrestling Stanka Zlateva. The official ceremony took place in the National Theatre and patron of the event was the Bulgarian president Georgi Parvanov who awarded the prizes to the winners.142 journalists took part in the survey organized by Nove Holding and they set three categories. Best coach of the year is the coach of the national boxing team Peter Lesov. He received 156 points and behind him are the coach of the national male volleyball team Silvano Prandi and the coach of the Italian volleyball club and champion ‘’Trento’’ – Radostin Stoichev.
‘’I am very honoured to have this award and also feel happy that Bulgaria managed to produce a world champion. I want to thank the Federation and, of course, Detelin Dalakliev. I wish to all that we have many Bulgarian world champions for 2010, so that the journalists may have more difficulty in deciding who is the best coach and the best sportsman.’’ Peter Lesov said.
The newly established award ‘’Team of the Year’’ went to the national male volleyball team which won the bronze medal at the European championships. Silvano Prandi’s boys got 1270 points and left behind the national sambo team and the teams of Levski FC and CSKA FC. The President Georgi Parvanov awarded the prize and wholeheartedly admitted that is happier with the achievements of the volleyball team than with his political achievements.

Kubrat Pulev vs Oleg Platov
December 14 , 2009
It has been only a few months since Kubrat Pulev started his professional career and now he already expects his first serious trial. On 30 January he will play his fifth bout, where his opponent will be the famous and experienced Ukrainian Oleg Platov. The 26-year old Platov has a record of 30 professional fights, from which 28 wins (22 knockouts), one stopped fight due to an accidental headbutt and only one loss on points against the journeyman Ludovik Mace. Despite his great experience, Platov hasn’t met a high-profile boxer except the English Danny Williams. The fight between the two was stopped due to a head clash. Platov is 30 in the unofficial world boxrec ranking, while Pulev is 50. Pulev is both taller and 10 kg heavier than the Ukrainian. The explosive punches of Platov, however, will be a permanent danger during the eight rounds of boxing and in order to win, Pulev will have to fight perfectly from a distance.See the fight between Platov and Danny Willliams here:

Pulev outpoints Oloukun
November 7 , 2009
Kubrat Pulev won his third professional bout. This time he made it on points against the Nigerian Gbenga Oloukun (17-3, 10 KO`s), who was ranked number 9 in WBO . The Bulgarian boxer confidently controlled the bout and his punches were by far more effective. Oloukun, who won over former WBO heavyweight champion Lamon Brewster just two fights ago, could do nothing to disrupt Pulev. The Bulgarian took the first couple of rounds to adjust to the Nigerian’s style but then started to dominate due to his superior technical assets. All the rounds were judged for Pulev, who made a quantum leap up in class in this fight. After that win he is currently number 78 in the world boxrec ranking after only 3 fights behind his back. Next fight for Pulev will be on 5 December again in Germany. -

Serbezov made an impressive fight in Ireland
October 27 , 2009
Stoyan Serbezov (1-2, 1KO) made an excellent performance against the former Irish amateur star and current professional boxer Willie Casey (2-0,1KO) during the boxing show in Dublin this Saturday, 24.10.2009. The boxer from the town of Burgas, who was one of the hot prospects of Bulgarian amateur boxing four years ago, is back to the ring after a 3-year absence. He made his debut in the boxing show in Ruse, where he lost on points against the experienced Yordan Vasilev. „Three years out of boxing is not a short period but with hard trainings and more fights I will compensate for the absence. I couldn`t reach the amateurs national team because of the great competition of Alexander Vladimirov and Detelin Dalakliev. Now I can fight in weight divisions between 54-58 kg against every boxer in the world. In my top form I can be a danger for anyone,” Serbezov comments. He signed a contract with the managerVasko Vasilev last month. “I like Serbezov`s style of play. He has a very good defence and needs just a little more confidence to become a nightmare for his opponents. His boxing is very attractive and it was not surprising that he received loud applauds from the audience in Dublin. If he continues to give such a performance, this boy will have a bright future and he will be able to win not only in Bulgaria but on the international scene, as well”, said Vasilev. The legend of Bulgarian boxing Kirkor Kirkorov also took part in the event. His opponent was Eddie Hyland (16-1) and the fight ended in the third round. Hyland attacked Kirkorov with body shots and managed to knock him down twice in the second round. After Kirkorov was down again in the third round the referee decided to stop the contest. -

The 28-year old Bulgarian will started his professional career with two knockouts. On 7 November he will fight for the first time in a 6-round match. His opponent is not announced yet.

This will give him the chance to climb to the top ten in the professional rankings, which is a final step before an attack of a World title. A title in professional boxing will guarantee Pulev the well-deserved millions of euros.

After this win our heavyweight boxer moved up with 191 places in the world ranking and is now number 165 after only two fights. Mayweather vs Marquez live on Ring BG
September 18 , 2009
Undisputed lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (50-4-1, 37 KOs) takes on 5 weight world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr (39-0, 25 KO’s) at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 19th. Mayweather, who is returning from his self imposed exile from the sport, will be looking to regain the title of best pound for pound fighter in the world, which he relinquished to Manny Pacquiao (49-3-2, 37 KO’s) when he retired.
Marquez, who won the WBO and WBA lightweight titles when he stopped Juan Diaz, will once again be moving up in weight for this fight. Having already won world titles at Featherweight, Super Featherweight and Lightweight, he will be fighting Mayweather at a career high weight somewhere in the region of 143-147lbs
Having only recently moved up to and fought at Lightweight twice, many see the natural size disadvantage as too big of a barrier for Marquez and believe the result is a foregone conclusion. Many also expect Mayweather, an Olympic bronze medallist, to be far too fast, slick and powerful for the great Mexican.
Marquez is seen as a mere stepping stone for a potentially mouth watering clash between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, although Pacquiao has now secured a bout with WBO Welterweight champion Miguel Cotto. Marquez too, however, will be looking to secure a third clash with the Filipino, as he feels he’s been harshly dealt with by the judges on the two previous occasions they have met.
There first fight, in 2004, was hugely controversial. Marquez hit the deck 3 times in the opening round but won a large majority of the rounds that followed. The fight went the distance with the judges scoring the bout 115-110 Pacquiao, 110-115 Marquez, and 113-113, a draw.
They contested a rematch four years later with the result of this encounter equally as controversial as there first. This too went the full 12 rounds with the judges scoring a split decision for Pacquiao. Most boxing experts believe Marquez won the fight. I believe he won both fights. Although this fight is seen as a warm up for Mayweather, I believe it is a potential banana skin.
Juan Manuel Marquez is an extremely under estimated fighter. He holds impressive wins over the likes of Agapito Sanchez, Robbie Peden, Manuel Medina, Derrick Gainer, Rocky Juarez, Joel Casamayor and the great Marco Antonio Barrera. He was the mandatory challenger to Naseem Hamed’s WBO Featherweight title for 2 years, but was never given the opportunity to fight for the belt.
Struggling to land big fights, Marquez travelled to Indonesia to fight Chris John in his home country. Marquez lost by a controversial unanimous decision. Then came Marquez’s big opportunity to catapult himself onto the big stage. It was announced he would be challenging fellow countryman Marco Antonio Barrera for his WBC Super Featherweight title. Marquez beat Barrera by unanimous decision and paved the way for more high profile bouts.
The newly crowned champion then made a successful first defence of his title against Rocky Juarez. Then came the rematch with Pacquiao. After losing his title, Marquez decided to move up in weight to take on tough Cuban Joel Casamayor. Marquez became the first man to stop Casamayor, scoring an 11th round TKO. Next up was former undisputed lightweight champion Juan Diaz.
The winner would be crowned the undisputed lightweight champion and the number 1 fighter in the lightweight division. In a thrilling and pulsating contest, Marquez became the first man to stop Diaz and inflicted only the second defeat of his career via a 9th round stoppage. Mayweather’s career on the other hand, has consisted of nothing but big fights.
He is a 6 times, 5 weight world champion, and won his first world title in the super featherweight division at the age of 21. The most notable names on his list of victims include Angel Manfredy, Diego Corrales, Jose Luis Castillo, Arturo Gatti, Sharmba Mitchell, Zab Judah, Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton. He was last seen in the ring back in 2007, when taking apart Ricky Hatton in 10 rounds.
At 32 years of age, this prolonged absence from the ring may have a detrimental affect on Mayweather, and ring rust could prove to be a vital factor. Another key factor may be the rib injury Mayweather suffered during training for this fight. The original date for the bout was July 18th but had to be postponed due to Mayweather’s injury.
Only time will tell if the injury has been given enough time to fully heal. The way in which Marquez’s body responds to the extra weight will also be a vital issue. He revealed he has been lifting heavy rocks at high altitudes in order to build strength and is looking to build all round muscle without losing his speed. Fighting at a higher weight may benefit Marquez.
We have seen the effect it has had on Manny Pacquiao. Winning his first world title at Flyweight, Pacquiao is now campaigning at Light Welterweight. The 5 weight world champion looks as strong and fast as ever at his new found weight, and has disproved the notion ‘a good big un will always beat a good little un’. I don’t think Marquez needs to weigh in at the full limit.
Trying to make use of every pound permitted may add unnecessary muscle slowing Marquez down. The way in which Marquez starts will go along way in determining the outcome of this fight. Keeping in mind Mayweather’s inactiveness, I think Marquez should jump on him as soon as the opening bell sounds. He should look to pressure Mayweather, working every combination off the jab.
I believe he should also look to go downstairs whenever possible, whipping in hurtful body punches, testing whether Mayweather’s rib has fully recovered. Many expected Mayweather to ease his way back into the sport, and expected him to pick a low profile opponent for his first fight back.
Instead, he’s chosen a man considered to be the second best pound for pound fighter on the planet. Marquez is a ferocious, relentless, fearless warrior with heart in abundance. His never say die attitude makes him a match for anyone on his day.
Although Mayweather is considerably bigger and is more natural at the weight, if Marquez can set the tempo early, assert his jab and target Mayweather’s body, I believe he could spring a huge upset.

Dalakliev is №1 on the planet!
September 15 , 2009
Dalakliev (Bulgaria) is the world champion in Milan for the bantamweight division. After fourteen years Bulgaria is again on the top with a golden medal. The previous gold was won by Serafim Todorov (57kg) and Daniel Petrov (48kg) in Berlin in 1995.At the final Dalakliev won dramatically against Edward Abzalimov (Russia) with 5:3. The fight started smoothly for the 26-year old boxer from Pleven (Bulgaria). He led after the first round with 1:0. The result was doubled after the second round. Then the Russian threw himself in attacking and managed to score a point. After another exchange of punches the result was 3:2 for Dalakliev. 30 seconds before the end of the final Abzalimov made his third point. The Bulgarian showed perfect self-confidence and rushed forwards. He again took the lead after a successful punch and instead of keeping the result, he continued to attack. A new point for Dalakliev made the final result 5:3.
On his way to the title Dalakliev eliminated six opponents and allowed only 5 points to be scored against him. This makes him one of the favourites for winning the Russell Cup for best boxer at World championships.
This is the biggest success for Dalakliev in his career. He had bronze medal from the World championships in Thailand, 2003 and several more medals from European championships. Dalakliev, who is captain of the Bulgarian team, started his development in his hometown of Pleven. Then he moved to the sports school of CSKA BC (Sofia). Now he is a boxer in Academic BC (Sofia) under the guidance of the coach Borislav Boyadjiev.
