Ribchev loses by a close decision in England
February 26 , 2012

The Bulgarian professional boxer Alexey Ribchev loses his fight to the Irish EBA champion Anthony Fitzgerald by a close result 76-77. There were some unexpected circumstances which put on some pressure before the fight. The Irish team couldn`t sell enough tickets as in the agreement with the promoter and couldn`t cover all the costs. However there was a deal and both boxers went to the official weight. There was another problem this time with Fitzgerald`s weight which was far above the agreed 73,5kg. Alexey Ribchev weighted – 73,1kg while Anthony Fitzgerald – 76,1kg . As a result of that the Bulgarian team decided not to accept the fight if Fitzgerald is not the same weight on the day of the event. The unofficial weight went on only 15 minutes before the time of the bout. The Irish boxer was 77kg which was again 1kg over the agreement but the Bulgarian said it is ok.
Ribchev get into the fight not very strong and lost the first couple of rounds. The third went into his name because of his better activity. A pain in the right hand which is a result of an old injury started to worry Ribchev and he was fighting slowed down the tempo in the fourth. The fifth round was scored as a draw. The Fish knew that he is losing the fight and risked everything to win the last rounds over the more exhausted Fitzgerald. He clearly won the 7th and the 8th but at the end it was not enough and the referee scored it 76-77 for the Pride of Dublin – Anthony Fitzgerald.
Ribchev`s next fight is scheduled to be in the beginning of May in Bulgaria. The Fish will challenge for the UBO inter-continetnal middleweight title in a 12 round contest. In a few days it will be officially announced if the event will be in Ribchev`s hometown – Ruse or the professional boxing will get back in the capitol of Bulgaria after a long time of absence.

Another success for The Fish
October 30 , 2011
The Bulgarian professional boxer Alexey Ribchev added another prestigious win in his record. After a tremendous fight he defeated former Commonwealth champion and former EBU title challenger Matthew Hall (23-3) . The English boxer was frustrated in his home town Manchester. Ribchev`s coach Alexey Vasilev was next to him in the corner. Here is what he said about the fight : “The first round was very even, probably the referee scored it for Hall. Then we won clearly the next 3 rounds. The fifth one was our weakest. Ribchev came in the corner with a pain in the right hand and he was forced to use his left hand only. In the last seconds of the sixth round in his typical style The Fish showed his desire to win and despite the pain he was the more active and accurate boxer. The referee deservedly scored it 59-57 in our favor. I am very happy and I believe this will bring more confidence in my boxer which will led to greater success in his career.
