BULGARIAN TITLE

Panov weathered Emilov’s late surge to win the Bulgarian belt again

Ten rounds at Golden Sands, a difficult eighth and a strong finish: Yosif Panov beat Angel Emilov on the PROBOX Promotions show.

Panov weathered Emilov’s late surge to win the Bulgarian belt again

Yosif Panov was closing in on another Bulgarian title when Angel Emilov forced him back to the ropes in round eight. At the International Hotel in Golden Sands on 19 June 2021, The Viper had to withstand a late surge to win their ten-round super welterweight contest at 69.9 kg.

Panov took a unanimous decision, but technique alone had not been enough. Emilov had pushed him hard in his attempt to end Yosif’s winning run. Holding on to that run demanded composure and resilience.

Forty fights of experience against sixteen consecutive wins

Before the bout, Panov had 18 wins and three losses, while Emilov had around forty professional fights. Angel’s experience between the ropes was considerably greater. He also knew the difficult side of the trade: away bouts where you must assert yourself against an opponent, a home crowd and expectations focused on the other corner.

Emilov had long wanted a clash like this in Bulgaria. In an interview before the event, he spoke openly about his desire to face the country’s leading names. The belt at Golden Sands was therefore a concrete opportunity to change the conversation about his own career. Opposite him stood Panov, already with sixteen consecutive victories.

The Viper’s distance control

Emilov sought inside fighting; Panov sought movement and varied punches. After the fifth round, all three interim scorecards read 50–45 for Yosif.

Round eight: the pressure turns

In the seventh and eighth rounds, Emilov pressed Panov against the ropes. Yosif lost a point for holding but regained control in the final two rounds.

The unanimous decision brought his nineteenth win and seventeenth in a row. The hardest moment had been overcome, and the belt was his again.

One night. One belt.

PROBOX Promotions organised #OneWinnerOneBelt, with matchmaking by Vasko Alexeev. The main event brought two ambitious Bulgarian fighters together and gave the Golden Sands crowd a hard-fought, ten-round title contest.

For our work, a fight like this has value beyond the winner: a national belt gains weight when opponents contest it to the end. Panov left with the title, while Emilov’s resistance made his success harder and more memorable.
