The Universal Boxing Organization named Vasko Alexeev its Manager of the Year for 2011. The original certificate, issued under the name Vasko Vasilev, cites his work with UBO International middleweight champion Alexey Ribchev.
For us, the award recognises the work behind Ribchev’s title campaign: securing opportunities and organising championship fights around his development.
The work behind Ribchev’s title
Ribchev won the UBO International title against Juris Boreiko in Ruse in 2011. UBO’s own archive names Vasko as the promoter, independently confirming the role recorded in our personal archive.
Ribchev won the fight and the belt. The management award recognised the work behind that opportunity — a different contribution to a shared achievement.
What the award recognises
The certificate records UBO’s annual ‘2011 Manager of the Year’ award. It recognises work within that organisation’s championship programme; it is not a ranking of all managers in world boxing. The original certificate is reproduced here.
In its awards for 2012, UBO again recognised Vasko Vasilev as Alexey Ribchev’s manager, this time with an honourable mention.
Recognition from the early years
This document belongs alongside the fight reports. It records the work that helped turn opportunities for Bulgarian boxers into championship events, and the recognition that work received outside our own organisation.
Ribchev’s championship career is a story of its own. This award records our part in it, naming the fighter, the organisation and the work recognised.
